General Services

Consultations, surgery and more

Consultations

We are a small animal practice and offer consultations for a range of pets, from cats, dogs and rabbits to exotic pets like reptiles and birds.

Consultations are offered by appointment only:

Monday-Friday: 8:40am – 12:00pm | 2:30pm – 6:30pm

Saturday: 9:00am – 12:00pm |

Our Standard Appointments are 15 minutes long. We understand the need to keep the costs of caring for pets down so subsequent repeat consultations for a current condition are reduced in price.

A consultation fee covers for our professional time and examination. We can provide clear information on the potential costs of treatment and this is something we encourage all clients to discuss with the vet at the time of treatment.

If you are unable to attend an appointment, please inform us as soon as possible so we can offer it to another client. We reserve the right to charge clients if they fail to attend appointments repeatedly without informing us.

Surgery

Our well-equipped operating theatre allows us to perform operations and other surgical procedures on site.

  • Routine operations such as neutering
  • Investigative procedures
  • Abdominal surgery
  • Tumour removal
  • Routine Dentistry Including Extractions
  • Wound Repair and Management

Diagnostic Imaging

The practice has radiography (x-ray) facilities and ultrasound for diagnostic procedures. We can perform pregnancy scans and endoscopy on site.

Complex Examinations

In addition to veterinary examinations and treatments, we offer the following additional services:

  • Neurological examination
  • Ophthalmological examination
  • Blood pressure testing
  • Chemotherapy
  • Blood Pressure - testing in dogs and cats is simple to perform and painless. Often there are no outward signs of high blood pressure, but if left untreated it can cause serious damage to main organs, especially the kidneys, neurological system and eyes, and can cause devastating disease such as blindness
  • Tonometry (Eye pressure test) - This allows us to check for condition such as glaucoma and uveitis, and is safe and painless to perform with instant results
  • Ophthalmological Exam - This involves assessment of the eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea, lens and fundus (back of the eye)
  • Neurological Exam – this is a series of neurological function tests to assess for problems affecting the spinal cord, peripheral nerves and brain

Laboratory Testing

We have an on-site laboratory for biochemistry, urinalysis and microscopy. We use an external laboratory for other tests, including histopathology and allergy testing.

Lab Testing - Our in house laboratory allows us to have comprehensive blood screening results available within 15 minutes of sampling. We can also measure thyroid level and assess for pancreatitis

Microscopy – allows us to examine blood smears, and urine samples. We can assess skin and ear samples for infections and parasites

Hospitalisation

Our kennels are modern and comfortable; we have avoided the use of cold metal kennels and house dogs separately from cats. Other small animals such as rabbits are housed away from other animals that may cause them distress. We use heat pads and comfortable bedding. A separate isolation kennel allows us to keep infectious animals away from others while still receiving plenty of attention and care. Our staff are all highly trained to provide barrier nursing of contagious patients to prevent the spread of disease. We also have intensive care facilities where pets can receive oxygen therapy, drips and constant observation if necessary.

Home Visits

Whilst under most circumstances it is better that animals are treated at the surgery where the full facilities are available, we understand that sometimes a home visit may be appropriate. Given some notice, we can arrange home visits that are convenient to our clients. Under emergency circumstances, pets should be brought to the surgery whenever possible to provide access to the equipment which cannot be transported. We will endeavor to assist in any way possible.
